Correlation between paraoxonase-1 arylesterase activities and clopidogrel drug in patients with coronary artery disease

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the leading causes death worldwide. Clopidogrel, antiplatelet drug, has been widely used for management CAD. Arylesterase, activity Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1), mainly contributed in biotransformation clopidogrel to its active thiol form. The purpose this study was investigate effect receiving drug on arylesterase activities CAD patients. antioxidant also monitored by determination malondialdehyde (MDA) level. Methods: One hundred patients, who were followed-up 5 days after reciving clopidogrel, and 50 healthy volunteers included our study. using two (phenyl acetate p-nitrophenyl acetate) substrates, lipid profile, MDA, total protein concentration (Tp) determined spectrophotometrically. Results: PON-1 activities, HDL-C, Tp significantly decreased (P<0.0001) patients with before (CAD-pre-Clp) compared baseline (non-CAD) levels these parameters returned (P>0.05) (CAD-post-Clp).
